Buffalo Pottery Deldare Mug Ye Lion Inn, 4 ¼ inches high, marked on bottom “Made at Buffalo Pottery, 1908, Deldare Ware, Underglaze”, marked in design “Ye Lion Inn” in sign and along bottom below initials of artist, American, some scratches to the glaze on one side, dot of excess slip on the inside under the glaze that was done in the making, a fault on the inside of the mug that is either a hair under the glaze, or a crack, or a repair, if you run your finger over the fault you can feel something that is higher than the finish inside the mug, if you put a Black Light to the area inside and to the corresponding area outside there is no evidence of an old repair, if you hold the mug bottom in your hand and tap the side with your knuckle you will hear a ring of an undamaged piece of pottery rather than a thud indicating a cracked piece, the line inside begins below the rim and is not straight but rather curved and stops before the bottom of the mug, I have done my best to describe the “fault” visible only on the inside and leave it up to you to decide what you think it is, the decoration of hand painted over transfer design is nicely executed with crisp lines and bright colors on a green background, sharp black lines define the handle and the top and bottom rim, a nice classic and decorative piece.
