Although they're made for hauling and built in preparation of a somewhat rough life, this Suburban has been well maintained over the years, and is a great example today. Original color combination, front bench seat, Silverado equipment, wood grain dash trim, and a 454 under the hood are just a few of the highlights of this Yuba Gold Suburban.
This vehicle may bring back nostalgia for many of those who are scrolling through the pictures. The days before cell phones in family member's hands during road trips, crank windows, AM/FM radio, and steel wheels with hubcaps are a stark change from all the features and technology that we see in SUV's today.
The exterior of this vintage "squarebody" is finished in the original Yuba Gold, with a white trimmed center section on the sides and rear. The exterior also features chrome bumpers, a chrome egg-crate style grille, round headlights, and Suburban and Silverado badging. White painted steel wheels have Chevrolet hub caps, and are wrapped in Firestone All Terrain Tires. The drop-down tailgate opens to reveal a very large cargo area at the back of the vehicle.
The cargo area isn't the only spacious part of this Suburban, as you would expect the interior is full of room for passengers. A pair of cushy bench seats which are trimmed in a combination of cloth and vinyl are very similar to the original color Saddle custom trim. Perched on the front bench seat is a prime spot to get a view of the wood grain trimmed dashboard. The range of gauges includes Oil Pressure, Coolant Temp, a clock, and Battery meter in the positions at the left side of the speedometer, which are oftentimes left blank. Column shift, Delco AM/FM radio, climate control, and a power tailgate window switch are all within the driver's reach. Woodgrain trim is carried over to the door panels, along with saddle door pulls and chrome door handles and window cranks.
Under the hood is a 454ci V8 mated to a TurboHydramatic transmission, just as this Suburban was optioned from the factory. The underside is solid, and you may notice while browsing the pictures that this vintage Chevy is a 2wd model, again just as it left the Flint production plant. A pair of "Cherry Bombs" take the place of the larger factory rear mufflers, so you can hear the rumble of the 454 a little better. A trailer hitch is still in place and straddles the optional 31 gallon fuel tank - you need to make sure the 454 isn't thirsty!
There's always a place for a vintage squarebody within automotive enthusiast circles, and this truck is exceptional. A classic exterior color combination that screams 1970's, a 454 under the hood, a simple and tidy interior, and simple wheel and tire treatment are just a few of the things we love about this Suburban.
